Rick Leroy Bonjour, 49, will be forced to turn over the dogs to Mercer County Animal Control.
“Many of the dogs are now in shelter care and receiving veterinary care,” said a statement from Mercer County State’s Attorney Gregory McHugh.
It all started when an Animal Control Officer reportedly saw several dogs in bad physical condition at Bonjour’s residence.
That led execution of a search warrant, during which about 40 dogs were found at the home.
Bonjour is accused of keeping a dog in a confined area where urine and feces were left uncleaned for long periods of time. He is also accused of refusing to provide veterinary care to dogs that needed it to prevent suffering.
Bonjour was arrested January 11, 2011. He was held in the Mercer County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bond.
