ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—Rock Island Police and Public Safety officers are stepping up patrols on and near the Augustana campus.

A spokesperson confirms there have been 9 break-ins in student housing recently. The last incident happened on January 2nd. The campus was largely empty, because most students were away for Christmas break.

Keri Rursch says TV's and video game systems were the most common items taken. It's unclear if the incidents are related.

Five of the burglaries were reported on campus, in student housing apartments. The four others were at student housing off campus. Rock Island Police are in charge of the investigation.

School officials are asking students to be more careful about securing their homes and watching out for their neighbors.
