DAVENPORT, Iowa—Police say a couple refused to cooperate with a man who tried to rob them at gunpoint at a Davenport, Iowa ATM.

The suspect reportedly approached the couple at a Wells Fargo ATM at 1600 Main Street just after midnight Friday, January 6, 2012.  He allegedly pulled a handgun and demanded money.

When the couple refused his demand, the suspect allegedly fired a shot in the air before he fled on foot.

Police said the male victim chased the suspect, but he managed to elude the victim and police.

When more officers and a police K9 helped search the area, they found a man who fit the suspect description at Locust Street and Grand Avenue.

Police said 21-year-old James Dinkins was armed with a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol when he was arrested.

The victims reportedly identified Dinkins as the man who tried to rob them.

Dinkins is charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of assault.  He was held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of $40,000 cash-only bond.
