Rock Falls man arrested for fatal crash

ROCK FALLS, Ill.—Two days after being indicted by a grand jury, a 40-year-old Rock Falls, Illinois man was arrested in connection with a wreck that killed a pedestrian.

Chad Morse is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol November 26, 2011 just before midnight when the SUV he was operating struck and killed 33-year-old Brad Nitsch of Rock Falls.

Police said Morse was traveling northbound on Avenue D near East Seventh Street when Nitsch, who was standing on the east side of the road, was struck.

The SUV then reportedly hit a utility pole, overturned and came to rest between the front porch and two trees at a nearby residence.   Nitsch’s body was found nearby.

Two female passengers in the SUV were treated for their injuries at an area hospital.

Morse was arrested at his parents’ Rock Falls home just before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 21, 2011.

Morse was held in the Whiteside County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
