CHICAGO—The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission or ARDC has filed a petition to suspend the law license of former Rock Island County States Attorney Jeff Terronez, pending the outcome of a future disciplinary hearing.

Terronez was served the petition yesterday.

The ARDC is asking the Supreme Court for an interim suspension of Terronez's law license citing ''conduct that involved fraud or moral turpitude'', and includes refferences to the road trip Terronez took to Champaign with the teenaged victim in the Jason VanHoutte sex abuse case he prosecuted, and states the former prosecutor lied to State Police investigators looking into the case.

Terronez plead guilty to one count of buying alcohol for a minor last spring, resigned his elected position and forfeited his pension.

The ARDC filed a disciplinary complaint against Terronez last month, but now is seeking to temporarily suspend his law license until the outcome of a hearing.

Terronez and his attorneys responded in a formal motion to the original disciplinary complaint accusing the ARDC of ''orchestrating a widespread negative publicity campaign.''
