Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has bet much of the farm on Deere and Company.His investment firm, Cascade Investment LLC, became the largest shareholder in the Moline-based ag giant, purchasing a 5% stake Wednesday, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).
Cascade’s investment, according to the filing, was roughly $1.4 billion at current prices, or almost 21 million shares.

Deere is scheduled to report results next Wednesday.
Its stock closed Wednesday night at 67.99, down 4.14% after dropping 2.94.
