This morning the John Deere Classic announced that 2010 British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen will be among the 156 golfer’s at this year’s John Deere Classic.

The 28-year-old South African won his first major championship last year. Interestingly, Oosthuizen used his winnings from the British Open to buy John Deere equipment for his family’s farm. In his formal announcement, he said, “John Deere is very close to my heart.”

When Oosthuizen arrives in the hometown of John Deere, he will encounter a strong field including the two-time defending champion and No. 1 ranked American golfer, Steve Stricker.

Oosthuizen is due to defend his British title a week after the classic. To accommodate his tight schedule, the JDC has arranged a charter flight to take him directly to Sandwich, England after the tournament.

The tournament director Claire Peterson says, “This will be the first time in the 41-year history of our event that a reigning British Open champion has competed in the John Deere Classic the week before defending his title.”

The John Deere Classic runs from July 4th through the 10th.

Tickets for the John Deere Classic are available at www.johndeereclassic.com or by calling 309-762-4653.
